If you know me personally you know I've struggled with my weight my whole adult life. I am always yo-yo dieting and looking for the next quick fix. On Friday I was going over my posts from 2015 when I decided our family was going to cut out sugar and processed foods. It was the first thing in my life I had stuck with past a month and it was working for us, why did we stop? Looking back through those posts it looks like we allowed the business of life to sneak in and I just stopped preparing clean meals and snacks. I had lost 27lbs in like 8-weeks and my daughters had lost alot too.
We had already been making better choices since my son, Isaac had been diagnosed with two different heart conditions and we've been losing some. However, as I looked back over how we did it all three years ago it made me miss it so much. I had forgot how much better I felt during that time.
So, this weekend the girls and I went to Trader Joe's and the farmers market. One of the things I have noticed helps so much is having our veggies and fruits cleans, cut up, and ready to grab quickly because when we're busy or hungry we won't do it and go for something quick and usually unhealthy. And one of the things I love about Trader Joe's is they have super cheap flowers, so I always grab a bouquet to enjoy through the week.
I spent Saturday evening cleaning, slicing, peeling, and filling our fridge with yummy fresh fruits and veggies. Yes, it takes more work, but a few hours once a week is worth having healthy choices the rest of the week for my family to grab quickly. We're busy people and I work from home so I don't need junk food in this house.
This morning I made farm fresh eggs fried up in Avocado oil and a side of fresh fruits. I have also noticed when I eat clean non-processed foods without the sugar I feel so much better even immediately after. When I eat unhealthy I am always tired and sluggish and I hate feeling that way. I even traded in my coffee creamer for coconut creamer with only 1g of sugar and it was pretty good, obviously not as sweet as I like it, but I'll get used to it.
I plan to make some granola, muffins, and scones for this weeks snacks/breakfasts later today. I am using whole wheat flour which is what I did last time, I even made our breads.
